Schools

Up & Away Speech Therapy Services provide speech and language therapy to children within their setting, to support children with a range of needs, including:

- Communication difficulties including delayed speech/language or diagnosed disorders

- Attention and listening difficulties

- Social, emotional and behavioural difficulties that may affect learning and friendships

Support

There are 3 different levels of support we can offer:

1. UNiversal support

The aim of universal support is to work closely with teaching staff to help them create communication-friendly environments and implement whole class/whole school approaches to supporting communication. Staff will also be able to identify when a child may need to access targeted or specialist speech and language therapy services.

2. Targeted support

For some children, universal support may not be enough. Targeted support involves setting up small group and intervention approaches for staff to carry out with children. This can include language groups, narrative groups, social communication groups and phonology programmes.

3. Specialist support

A child may further require direct input from a Speech and Language Therapist if they are not making enough progress from universal and/or targeted provision. This may involve individual or group therapy sessions with the therapist.

“…Katie came into school each week to work with some of our children who had speech and language difficulties. Each week she worked 1:1 with the children and on occasion would work in the class to see where difficulties lie within the classroom environment. During her time with us, Katie made a huge difference with these children.

I found Katie to be very professional in her approach. She was always punctual, well organised and efficient. Staff were kept well informed about the areas she had worked on with each child and Katie could suggest resources and activities we could use in class to help further.

Katie has a calm, kind manner and is friendly and approachable.”
